- Habs/Pens deal
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/01/05/...penguins_trade/
"The Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenceman T.J. Kemp from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a conditional seventh round draft pick in the 2010 Entry Draft." - Is one of our players overrated?
About two weeks ago Damien Cox of the Toronto Star was answering a question about team's goaltenders and he said that he thought Montreal had one of the better goalie duo's in the Eastern Conference. Before this season I thought the combination of Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak would be amazing, but I'm having second thoughts. I think Price has played as well as I thought he would, but I'm disappointed in Halak thus far.
Carey Price has played 25 games, he's won 16 and lost 4 in regulation time. His GAA is 2.30 and S% is .921. He has won 64% of the games he played in.
Halak has played in 14 games in regulation time, he's won 6 and lost 6. His GAA is 2.72 and S% is .908. He has won 42% of the games he played in. He has let in 8 goals in the past 5 periods he has played. Last year he spent time in the AHL as did Scott Clemenson with the Marlies. So this year both started as backups in the NHL, Clemenson with NJ. Since Brodeur has been hurt Clemenson has played in 23 games and won 15. So Price has won 64% of his games, Clemenson has won 65%, and Halak 42%.
On Monday Carbonneau talked about seeing if Price could come back sooner than what was planned, and this is a result of how Halak has played. I thought Halak could push Price for the starting role and be a goalie other teams would want to trade for as their starting goalie. I don't know if that's the case anymore. I like Halak and I hope he can turn this around. But he needs to turn it around pretty soon, because for me, winning 42% of his games, he hasn't lived up to expectations so far. Based on his play this season, I wonder if we have overrated him? I hope not. - Habs vs. Panthers | Game Thread
- Josh Gorges now considered a top-4 defenseman
Gorges has been upgraded, by sportsnet.ca, as a 4th defenseman.
For a long time, he was considered 6th or 7th.
It looks like his work ethic, qualities and aptitude have made him recognized by these non-partisan evaluators as a higher quality defenseman.
What a huge steal by Gainey! Gorges & Pacioretti for Craig Rivet.
I'm also glad for Gorges... he was so heavily maligned when he was claimed by the Canadiens - just a throw-in to be thrown out.

GO GO! - Should Bouillon be in the pressbox?
It has become very evident that Bouillon's play lately has really sucked.
Bad turnovers.
Getting caught pinching, when he rarely chips in with a goal.
Losing one-on-one battles.
Would rather see Weber, who may help the PP.
Anyone else agree.
Put the Cube in the pressbox, and i'd even rather see O'byrne in the lineup.
Please BG, do something. - HW Recap - Week 13

Agree? Disagree? Speak your piece! - Permanent Rumor Thread
Post all Habs related rumors from other sites (like Eklund) in this thread.
Any new threads started based on crappy sites will be merged with this one.
QUOTE(simonus @ Sep 11 2006, 01:52 PM) Thank you for your respect... We do our best to hear constructive criticism and distinguish it from groussing, which can also be valuable.
There has been a lot of criticism of the mod team's decision to consolidate the rumour thread. I thought it might help to hear why we decided to do this (at least why I think it was a good idea).
1) There was tons of rumour repeats.
If Code or Eklund reported a Habs-related rumour, we'd often get 3 or 4 reports on the site. This meant that mods had to spend a lot of time cleaning up a lot of threads for rumours which had little probative value.
Whenever a trade, or other major habs-related event occurs, the mod team has to clean up a bunch of repeat threads (e.g. everybody wants to be the first to report the habs signed player X). We sign up to do this sort of clean up and are happy (ok... willing) to do it to keep the board running smoothly. It is harder to summon that same desire to clean up for threads that are much less important to the Canadiens.
2) Rumour threads, by their very nature, greatly overlap.
Rumour 1: Souray is going to be traded to San Jose for a draft pick Rumour 2: Rivet is going to be traded to San Jose for a draft pick Rumour 3: Souray is going to be traded to the Ducks for Selanne (made all these up, obviously)
Now how do I clean this up? Do these all deserve their own thread?
Should I make a thread: "Souray being shopped", "Bob looking to get San Jose's picks", or "Habs going after Selanne"... these rumours could be sliced up a bunch of ways and each is somewhat meaningless without reference to the others.
3) Rumour threads should not be compared to Lounge threads
The Lounge is for things unrelated to hockey... at the very least matters unrelated to North American Hockey. It is thus a relegation for threads unrelated to the thrust of the site.
As a mod, I am generally much more wary of policing the Lounge. I am much more lax in applying most of the requirements of the site. I basically do 2 things when monitoring the Lounge: 1) Make sure theres no hate, flame, spam, or a ridiculous amount of profanity 2) Move hockey-related posts to the other forums (rarely have to do this)
I only merge threads in the lounge when there is an exact repeat of a previous (and recent) post. It should be noted that even in the lounge we have often had "mega threads"... for baseball, soccer, Olympics, NFL, nothing....
Maybe this helps a bit... or at least gives a window into my flawed reasoning... - 4 Habs will start for the East
Kovalev, Komi, Markov, Price.
The other 2 are Malikn and Crosby.
West starters: Giguere, Niedermayer (Scott), Getzlaf, Toews, Kane, Campbell.
So it's : Habs+Pens VS Hawks+Ducks - Habs @ Devils | Game Thread
- Carbo's message to Guillaume
Taken from LaPresse.
«Je m?attends à ce que Guillaume en donne autant à notre équipe que Milan Lucic à Boston. Je ne lui demande pas de jeter les gants à tous les matchs. Mais je lui demande de s?impliquer, de frapper et de marquer des buts.»
translation
" I expect that guillaume gives as much to the team as Lucic does in Boston. I'm not asking him to drop the gloves every game. But I ask him to get more involved, to hit and to socre goals"
now if Guillaume doesnt get it ...
We all know he can do that, he did before. Why he doesn't do it more often ?? only Guillaume knows!!
if we read between the lines: he's on a very tight leash.
